The Woods Hole Cantata Consort 2009 Program

We offer wonderful music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1675-1750) for orchestra and chorus: the Brandenburg Concerto #2, featuring virtuoso trumpet player Robinson Pyle; a seldom-performed "Sanctus" (BWV 238) for chorus and strings; a German motet by Johann Michael Bach, an aria "Alles Mit Gott und Nichts ohn' ihn" (BWV 1127); and the marvelous Magnificat in D for chorus, soloists and orchestra.

A very recently-discovered, delightful strophic aria, by Johann Sebastian Bach will be sung by Joan Kirchner, soprano.   This performance marks a premiere for the aria, BWV 1127, on Cape Cod!

Robinson Pyle, trumpet, performs extensively throughout the New England area on both modern and historic instruments. He performs as a regular member of Boston Baroque, Boston Cecilia, and Lyra Concert (Minneapolis, MN). He makes frequent appearances with the Handel & Haydn Society, Arcadia Players, Apollo's Fire (Cleveland, OH), New Hampshire Music Festival, Portland Symphony
Orchestra, Studio de musique ancienne de Montreal, and Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Pyle performed on the Grammy-nominated Boston Baroque recording of Bach's B-Minor Mass. He has also recorded on Telarc, Eclectra, Interscope, OJE and A2Z labels, and has been featured in radio broadcasts on National Public Radio, the CBC, and European Community Radio. Mr. Pyle holds a degree in Trumpet Performance from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and is currently a faculty member in the Historical Performance Department at Boston University.

Under the baton of Judith Brownell, Eleanor Martinez will serve as concertmistress. This is her third season as a violinist with Woods Hole Cantata Consort. She is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, with a B.A. in Violin Performance. She is a recent alumna of the Fontainebleau Institute in France. Nora currently teaches many students and performs in the greater Boston area.

The versatile instrumentalist Robert Kidd will play trumpet, and many other well-known area performers.
